Anime Please Save My Earth Episode 1 Please Save My Earth (OAV) Opening N/A Ending Toki no Kioku Version watched Commercially Subtitled Summary by Kylara (E-mail)
A teenage girl with dark hair is carrying a bag of groceries (tofu is inside) as she walks up the street. { Screen Shot } She thinks to herself that she wants to go home; she's never been anywhere so stuffy and crowded before. [Various landmarks indicate that she's in Tokyo.] A boy's voice tells his older sister to listen about how dinosaurs used to rule the Earth. [Images of dinosaurs flash over the crowded city.] He says they suddenly became extinct; now the humans are doing the same, as they are too big for earth. He continues saying, "We are living in an age that has begun to forsake humanity." Looking out at Tokyo Tower, she thinks that she agrees with her brother, Hajime, but that she just wants to go home.
[ Title Screen : Please Save My Earth One ]
The sound of a rhythmic gymnastics ribbon flows by. She looks up, and in a voice of horror, she thinks to herself that those light footsteps - that sound! He's playing with rhythmic gymnastics near by! Suddenly, a kid dances in front of her, waving a gymnastics ribbon. Bowing to her, she thinks horrifiedly to herself that it's Kobayashi Rin! Chewing his gum loudly, he greets her as the girl from Hokkaido who moved in next door - Alice, the high school freshman! { Screen Shot } Rin suddenly pulls out a stick of gum from his pocket, offering it to her. She declines, saying that it was him who spit gum into her shoes the other day. Hurt, he asks how can she accuse an innocent seven year old with outany evidence? She's like a tax auditor! She finally says that she'll have a piece, and he tells her to crouch down to his level and open her mouth. She does that, but instead, he spits the gum he was chewing into her mouth and pops the new stick in his mouth. He dances off as his mother calls him, saying something about a perfect ten.
Alice is later talking about how that night they had her favorite, boiled tofu, but that she was so distressed she could not eat a bite. She suddenly starts weeping at the dinner table, and her family is worried, but her brother mutters that Rin played another trick on her. The doorbell rings, and then Alice repeats, "Baby-sitting?" Apparently, Rin's family is all busy the next day, and so is her own family... all except Alice. Rin's mother says that it'd be wonderful, especially since Rin kept saying on how glad he was to see Alice. Sleeping in her bed that night, she thinks to herself that they are all heartless, and that don't they understand that she can't babysit him. She thinks various thoughts, such as how she shouldn't ruin her father's mood over his promotion to a higher office (that's presumably why they're in Tokyo), and curses Hajime, thinking on how he could possible eat three and a half portions of tofu! She says that she endured her hungry stomach's growling all that night, with tears on her pillow.
During the day, you hear Rin and Alice arguing. She chases him around, yelling at him to throw his gum wrappers in the trash. He refuses, and then yells at her that she thinks she's so prim and proper, but she's not even a virgin! Alice is shocked, and he says that he knows all about it. Good young ladies are virgins, while good gentlemen are chaste. { Screen Shot } He dares her to deny it. While he says this, a cat walks in through the door, scaring the heck out of Rin, who sort of glares at the cat funny. While the cat is feeding, he mentions that he only sees animals in pictures. Smiling, Alice says that they'll go to the zoo.
At the zoo, they're looking at all the various animals. While looking at the monkeys, he mentions that it's weird how they're all crowding around the area directly below Alice and Rin. Smiling, Alice says that they're doing it for him. Rin looks up at her, and says that she's saying she can talk to animals? She denies it, saying that she just gets the kind of feeling of their emotions. Thinking, she remembers that when she was much younger, the same thing happened in Hokkaido, and all the horses crowded around her. [Alice looks maybe six in the flashback.] Her parents comfort her, saying that there was nothing to be afraid of. She wonders if there's really something special about her; isn't she normal? At the zoo, all the animals are constantly surrounding her. Voices come from the penguins, saying things like, "How can you sense what we're feeling? We've never met anyone like you before." Smiling, she thinks that it's just like she told Rin - when they're happy, she can just sense it.
As they're walking away, they spot a booth that's selling crocus bulbs. She says that she'll buy him one for a souvenir, and he's happy about it, saying he'll take good care of it. As they walk along, they meet two other guys walking along, and one of them exclaims that isn't it Sakaguchi-san? Shocked, Alice turns around in the other direction, stuttering that she and Rin should go home now. The brown haired guy catches her sleeve as she walks off, and red-faced, begs her to come for coffee with them, so that they can explain the misunderstanding. She agrees silently.
At the coffee shop, she and Rin are sitting across from the two other guys (her age). The brown haired guy speaks up, saying that they just want to tell her that they're not gay! Pointing at the dark haired guy, he introduces him as Nishikiori Issei from homeroom three. Issei says that from what Alice heard yesterday, there's no wonder there's a misunderstanding. As Rin stuffs ice cream in his face, Alice asks them if they realize what they said. Looking nervous, she says that they said they weren't... 'normal'.
Flashback to school, where Alice is in her school uniform, smiling at the pretty flowers. She greets them. Looking around at the flowers, she hears another voice, saying that they really aren't normal, are they? Gazing at the guy who spoke, she sees that the guy is Ogura Jinpachi from her class, but who's the other guy? Issei, the other guy, agrees. They talk about how shocked they are, and then Jinpachi exclaims that last night, they..! Issei looks very distressed (and very very feminine) and begs him not to say it. Catching Issei's shoulder, Jinpachi spins him around and they gaze into each other's eyes. They look like they're going to kiss. As Alice nervously backs off, she steps on a twig. They see her { Screen Shot }, and she stutters an apology and runs off.
Back in the present, Jinpachi says that they're not normal; they're not twins or related or anything, but that they have the same dreams. In these dreams, Jinpachi's name is Gyokuren, while Issei's is Enju. Issei says that Enju is a woman, and that Alice caught them in an awkward position because in that previous night's dream, Enju and Gyokuren slept with each other. Flushed, she replies 'slept'? Jinpachi says that it sounds really dumb, but Alice says no, but she'd like to hear more about the dreams. Issei replies that the dreams don't play in the correct order, or continue from the previous night, but are random, as if the memories were buried in their brains somewhere. Jinpachi adds that in the last two years of junior high, they had the same homeroom, and then they would compare their dreams. When they started high school, they compared them, and realized that they had the same setting (the moon), the same people, and conversations.
As we see images of the moon, Jinpachi continues that there were seven scientists, and that his alter ego Gyokuran was one of them, along with Enju. [An image appears of a computer lab, with six people gazing fixedly at the computer. One man stands at the door, away from the group, hidden in shadows.] { Screen Shot } Jinpachi says that they were doing some sort of research work on observing the Earth. They'd gather data on everything from politics to wildlife, and recorded everything. Issei cuts in here, saying that he'll start by describing Jinpachi's alter-ego, Gyokuran. [Now looking at a green computer screen with pictures flashing over it.] An image of Gyokuran appears [very much like Jinpachi], and Issei says that Gyokuran acts like a gentleman, unlike Jinpachi. He is an archaeologist, shy, and excels at everything. Issei continues, saying that his own alter ego, Enju, was an introverted paleontologist. [Enju looks nothing like Issei, obviously. Slim, pretty girl.] She is secretly in love with Gyokuren, but he's in love with Mokuren.
Alice repeats the name, and Issei continues, saying that Mokuren was a mysterious woman, talented, knowledgeable, self-controlled, calm, gentle, and sincere. [Mokuren is a beautiful young woman.] He adds that most men who met her fell in love with her as well. Lastly, she was a very feminine, extremely talented biologist. Another image of a person appears, this one being the man who was by himself in the shadows. Jinpachi says that this man, Shion, was a genius engineer, and a childhood friend of Gyokuran, and a trouble-maker as a kid and still a bit odd as an adult. Issei adds that deep in his heart, though, he's very gentle, and has a strong, yet twisted sense of justice.
Issei finishes, saying that last there was the linquist, Hiirai, who was the team leader. Next to that image appears another woman, Shusuran the chemist, and on his other side, another man named Shukaido, the medical doctor. An image of the Earth surrounded by water appears, held gently by a pair of female hands. Issei says that he has the feeling that for these people, the Earth is a beloved place; a simpler land that reminds them of their home in ancient time. Jinpachi adds that he thinks it's just like humanity's fascination with old times (a dinosaur cries in the background). Looking down a bit, he adds that ever since Alice transferred to their school, he's gotten the feeling that they've met before. Alice is surprised, and blushes a bit. Issei laughs, asking if he's confessing his love for her, and Jinpachi denies it. Rin is looking very unamused, surrounded by dirty ice cream bowls.
At night now, Alice says that it was an interesting story, wasn't it? She has prepared the crocus in a special vase with water, and instructs him to lower the water as the roots go. Rin jumps up, and exclaims that when he first met her, he had a sense of de ja vu, too! Alice says that for a seven year old, sometimes he sounds just like an adult. Glaring at her, he asks her if she's in love with that guy? Is she going to marry him? Shocked, she says that what would he do if she said yes? Picking up the vase, he jumps up onto the balcony and straddles it, telling her to look. Screaming at him to be careful, he drops the vase over the side of the balcony, and it falls to the ground. Devestated, she slaps Rin across the face, asking him what he was doing. He falls over the rail from the force of the slap, and she just manages to catch his ankle. Screaming for someone to help, she loses her grip, holding just her sock as he falls down into the trees, several stories below. Her family, who is in the balcony below, watches horrifiedly.
Sirens blare out, and at the hospital, a taxi pulls up and her brother runs out. In the hospital, Rin's mother slaps a crying Alice across the face, and falls down to weep. The family watches sadly. The next morning, there are girls gossiping in the classroom. They ask each other if they heard about it? Another girl says that it was in the newspaper, and that they leave the girl's name unanswered, but that wasn't it Sakaguchi-san? Alice appears in the doorway, and softly says, "Good morning." [She says everything softly anyway.] The other girls nervously reply back. The whispering is all around her, and they wonder if she really did it on purpose; she looks so mild-mannered... Suddenly, Jinpachi smacks his hands down on her desk, and the gossiping stops as he glares around the room. Smiling at her, he says good morning, and she replies cheerfully back. But, a tear falls out of her eye, and trying to smile, she asks him if he went straight home after they met yesterday, or did he continue his date with Issei? Saying nothing, he pulls her closer to him, and she cries a little, thinking to herself that she's such a crybaby; when she goes home, she'll make some get-well cookies for Rin, and try to visit him. She thinks that Rin's mother probably won't want to see her, so she'll just leave them at the door. The class is staring at the two of them. At Rin's door, she leaves exactly that, and starts to pray, begging God to save Rin.
Far off in space, a woman's voice (not anyone we've heard before) sadly says, "From here, we most protect the moon." As the screen zooms in on Japan, a baby's cry resonates out, and Rin's eyes suddenly open in the hospital room.
At Alice's school, the phone rings, and the teacher answers. He answers, saying that they want Sakaguchi? Running up the stairs, Alice picks up the phone and her mother's overjoyed voice says that Rin regained consciousness, and that she has to leave school early, and hurry to the hospital. Alice is worried about Rin's mom, but Alice's mother replies that Rin's mother wants to apologize to her.
Alice runs through the sliding doors of the hospital, and up in his room, Rin says that Alice is here. Rin's mother, who is peeling an apple, says to Alice's mother that ever since he regained consciousness, he is playing a premonition game. He repeats how far Alice is, wondering out loud why Alice is taking the elevator. He counts down how many meters she is, and as she opens the door, he runs toward her, and she hugs him tightly. { Screen Shot } Rin's mother drops the apple as she gazes at Rin and Alice. She thinks to herself that she would never forget these memories. As Alice rests her palm against the tree next to apartment building, her brother's voice says that Rin's life was saved because his fall was cushioned by the trees. He adds that even here in Tokyo, they love her.
The rhythmic gymnastics ribbon waves around, and she thinks to herself that she's no longer intimidated by it! She's smiling happily, and as he dances around, she greets him happily with a "Rin-kun!" She kneels to his height level, and asks him when he's starting school, and he says the day after tomorrow. He asks nervously if she agreed, flushing a bit. Rin asks her to stay down a bit longer, and that it's ok, he'll throw out his gum. He suddenly leans over and kisses her on the lips. A recycling truck passes by, and so do several little kids before Alice finally pulls away, shocked. Laughing slightly, he says that his breath isn't THAT bad; he was chewing spearmint gum! Adding that he's fallen deeply in love with her, he says he'll see her later and runs off with the ribbon. Alice is beyond horrified, as she gazes at the running Rin and thinks to herself that she just can't figure that kid - what if the accident did this? What would she do if it would? Gasping, she thinks to herself, "What if that was my first kiss!?"
Gargling in the bathroom, Alice's mother calls her to come over there after she's done. She needs to talk to her. As Alice slides open the door to the room, her mother says she'll be frank - is Alice planning to get engaged to Rin-kun from next door? Her brother looks at her worriedly. Alice faints, thinking that she's blacking out - this is just too horrible! Her mother and brother call at her desperately, but the world is fading out...
A man's voice is calling her name, but he's not saying Alice - he calls her Mokuren. Waking up, she sees someone's face - Shion. { Screen Shot } Holding up a hand, she asks him what happened, and sits up on the ground. [Her voice is the same one that woke up Rin in the hospital.] Both he and her are wrapped in loose cloths over their clothes. He tells her that she slipped down the stairs and fell down. The setting is obviously somewhere else, as if in a big scientific lab, with plants growing around the place. Getting up, she says that she thinks she's ok. Looking up, she asks Shion if this is what she looks like. { Screen Shot } The screen is on Mokuren, a beautiful woman with long, blonde hair and bright blue eyes. She has four red dots in a diamond on her forehead. Shion asks her if she's really ok; did she hit her head too hard? She exclaims that she understands; she dreamt of Earth, and that she was a young Japanese girl, who was a crybaby with a family. Walking to the window through the plants, she gazes at the Earth, and says that she was surrounded by plants and fresh air. Sadly, she says the same line from earlier: "From here, we must protect the Earth." Gazing sadly up at the Earth, she closes her eyes, and Shion wraps his arms around her. { Screen Shot }
Alice wakes up back in Tokyo, and Hajime and her mother ask desperately if she's ok. Sitting up on the couch, Alice looks around dazedly. Hajime asks her nervously if she remembers what they were talking about, and Alice says she doesn't. Her mother talks about Alice getting engaged to Rin-kun from next door! Alice, still in a daze, replies that no, she's already engaged to Shion-san. The words echo as the screen zooms in on the sky above.
In his room, Rin hops up onto the rail, fully dressed with the moon shining above. He jumps neatly off, falling many stories down below. On the road, there's some sort of motorcycle gang. A guy is reading a letter made up of characters cut out from a paper. It reads, "Make friends with 'S' or else!" He crinkles the paper up and throws it over his shoulder. He thinks he saw a boy running on the fence, but his friends don't see it. Cursing, he rides off full-speed on his motorcycle. As he drives, he nearly hits a kid crossing the street. Turning back to tell him to watch where he's going, he sees Rin's face smiling darkly at him. As he turns back toward the road, a newspaper hits him in the face, and he's going much too fast to take it off. The brakes aren't working, and he nearly gets in an accident. Suddenly, he slows down, and the newspaper falls off - only to see that his slowing speed is due to the fact that he's floating in the air. Scared out of his wits, Rin suddenly appears next to him, and he screams his head off. { Screen Shot } Rin introduces himself as 'S-kun'. Pointing to Tokyo Tower over the horizon, he smiles easily. Whispering in the guy's ear, he says softly, "Give Tokyo Tower to me."
